CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – Two hundred sixty (260) police recruits from the four (4) provinces of Region 1 took their oath of office as Police Officer 1 (PO1) in a fitting ceremony this morning here. PCSUPT LUIZO C TICMAN, PRO 1 Regional Director, administered the oath to the 222 male and 38 female recruits as part of simultaneous oath-taking rites of police recruits nationwide.
Records of the Regional Personnel and Human Resource Development Division (RPHRDD) show that 652 young men and women applied for the PO1 positions. Of these, the top 260 applicants were chosen after a stringent screening process by the Regional Screening Committee on Recruitment headed by PCSUPT RAMON V GATAN, PRO1 deputy chief for administration.
The hiring of the 260 new PO1’s is part of the second phase of the PRO1 Attrition Recruitment Program for the year 2008.
PCSUPT TICMAN, in his speech, underscored the PNP motto of Service, Honor and Justice as he gave the recruits an idea of what is expected of them as law enforcers.
“As law enforcement officers, your fundamental duty is to serve and protect the people, the same people from whom you derive the power and authority to enforce the law. You are therefore duty-bound to place service to people above self, even to the extent of paying the ultimate sacrifice, if necessary,” Ticman said.
Ticman likewise stressed to the recruits to always keep in mind the people’s rights even as they enforce the law without fear or favor. He added the need for them to have major transformation from plain civilians to true police officers as they go on training.
Meanwhile, Ticman awarded a plaque of appreciation to PCSUPT RAMON V GATAN, for his efficient leadership as Chairperson of the Regional Screening Committee for Recruitment. Similar awards were likewise presented to the members of the said committee for their invaluable support to the PNP, namely: Director Evangeline R. Almirante, Assistant Regional Director, NAPOLCOM Regional Office 1; PSSUPT Eduardo Angel Dopale, Chief RPHRDD, PRO1; Miss Corazon G. Salindong, Chief, Operations Service Division, DILG-Region 1; Miss Blanchita I. Ignacio, Representative of Women’s Sector; and Atty.
