CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO — Police Chief Superintendent Constante D. Azares, Jr., Region 1 police director, and his wife Mrs. Maria Chanco Azares, adviser of the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) Ladies Club, led the police contingent in a medical-dental-optical mission jointly conducted with the Rotary Club of Metro San Fernando, La Union District 3790 in Barangay Balaoc, Santo Tomas, La Union this morning (March 20).
Volunteer doctors, optometrists, dentists and nurses from the Police Regional Health Office 1 and the Rotary Club of Metro San Fernando composed the team that attended to the huge number of individuals who came to avail of the mission’s free services.
PCSupt. Azares said a total of 585 residents of Barangay Balaoc benefited from the joint mission, broken down into 377 medical patients, 120 optical patients and 88 dental patients.
“I count this event, done in partnership with our stakeholders from the Rotary Club of Metro San Fernando, La Union, a very successful one. This also manifests the social responsibility of the Region 1 police, in addition to their usual performance of duty as vanguards of peace and order in this part of the country,” he added.
The Regional Director explained that the medical mission serves as the groundwork of the “Bawat Pulis Bayani” program spearheaded by the PRO1 Police Community Relations (PCR) division.
“Sa Region 1, ang turing namin sa lahat ng pulis ay bayani. Ito ay napatunayan na natin sa mga nagdaang kalamidad. This time our policemen’s heroism takes another form – helping the less fortunate in our own special way despite our meager resources,” he stressed.
General Azares expressed his gratitude to the Rotary Club of Metro San Fernando, La Union, through its president Mrs. Edna Dacanay, for providing medical supplies and equipment and for giving free medicines and reading glasses to the beneficiaries.
He likewise thanked Mrs. Azares, his nurse daughter Maria Vera Nadejda who helped in getting the blood pressure of the patients, and his two younger children, Maria Melecia Flor and Adrian Constantine who assisted in the registration process.
“We intend to duplicate this activity in other areas. That is why we are calling on more volunteers and donors to partner with us in carrying out the community health advocacy of the program ‘Bawat Pulis Bayani’ of PRO1,” the Regional Director concluded. ###
