DepEd Assistant Secretary Teresita Inciong lead the launching of the Special Education (SPED) Caravan 2010 in the province of Ilocos Sur. This was held at Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson’s residence in Baluarte, Vigan City. The theme of the event is “SPED in the Midst of Education for All”.
In her speech during the opening program, Asec. Inciong said that SPED will be established in all schools in the entire country in order to give an equal chance to the children with disabilities to learn in school.
“There is already a DepEd Deractive that all the schools and universities should accept enrollees who are Persons with Disabilities so that they will also feel and enjoy the benefits of schooling” Incions said.
Ilocos Sur Schools Division Superintendent Marino Baytec is very glad that the program was first to be introduced in the province. He explained that this is part of their mission that by 2015, all children must be in school including the PWDs and special children. The superintendent said that that they are now eyeing possible establishment of two SPED Centers in the province.
“Right now there are no established SPED Centers here but we are accepting special children in several of our schools” Baytec explained.
This includes some schools in Narvacan, Sa lucia, San Vicente, Magsingal, San Juan and Cabugao.
Seminar regarding SPED for teachers who will be taking on Special Education in Ilocos Sur was also done from August 17-21. (Mancielito S. Tacadena)
